In Echo, the spectators see a mirror image of themselves standing inside a surreal video landscape: with their naked eyes, they regard their dopplegangers in hologrammic 3D. I used interactive digital technology and computer animation, together with 19th century stage magic to create this uncanny experience. An examination of self-consciousness and alienation, Echo is inspired by psychoanalytic theories of narcissism as well as cognitive-neuroscientific research on perceived disembodiment.
